Avery Holderness-Roddam is an Australian Fencing Federation accredited Coach, providing quality fencing coaching in Tasmania, Australia.
Inspire Fencing is the result of twenty years of fencing, seventeen years of coaching, and fourteen years of running Van Diemen Fencing Club.
Avery's philosophy is that the sport should be fun and challenging, with an emphasis on skill acquisition and good sportsmanship.
Avery’s coaching style is informed by the Di Ciolo school of coaching, which is based on the Montessori philosophy and Carl Rogers’ teachings. The aim is to give students the space to find their own answers and to support them to learn to fence without spoon-feeding them.
Fencers can be social and/or competitive. Avery provides additional opportunities for competitive fencers to undertake high-performance training regularly in Southern Tasmania and takes groups of fencers to interstate tournaments throughout the year.
Coach Avery implemented a cloth badge grading system based on the British Fencing grading system, which has been popular at Van Diemen Fencing Club.
Inspire Fencing is Tasmania's only supplier of fencing equipment. Avery sells only equipment he is willing to use himself, from manufacturers he trusts. Equipment prices are kept as low as possible, meaning that anyone can own their own gear without having to pay an arm and a leg.
