January 2025 Update

Hello!

Coach Avery here. I’ve been focusing on Van Diemen Fencing Club, my role as President of the Tasmanian Fencing Association Inc, and my role as State Epee Coach, so I paused the website for a while but kept-up the fencing tasters, classes, and equipment sales.

I’ve just spent a fantastic eight days at the Sydney International Fencing Camp, organised by Bill Ronald OAM OLY, undertaking the coaching professional development program.

My coaching (and fencing) skills have received a huge boost thanks to Maestro Enrico di Ciolo, Maestra Virginia, their three assistants - Nicol, Tommaso and Giulio -, my coaching peers, the athletes we worked with, and my three wonderful OFC assessors for the Oceania Fencing Confederation Epee Coach Level 2 qualification; Kate Brill, Leon Thomas, and Judit Filszar.

I am filled with excitement to share these skills with the Tasmanian fencing community this year.

Bring it on!

Successful Ogilvie High Taster

Avery ran a very successful fencing taster for a group of keen students at Ogilvie High School after classes this week. The girls represented grades 7, 9 and 10.

The students were enthusiastic, friendly, polite and helpful. They were a joy to coach and represented Ogilvie very well!

Ogilvie will be offering after-school fencing sessions for interested students in Term 4.
